- Parents are not required to ride alongside their children. Children may participate independently within small, supervised riding groups.
What Riding Looks Like
- Riding during the week is not confined to an arena.
- After a brief introductory session, riders will explore the Andalusian countryside on horseback — moving through natural terrain, open landscapes, and traditional horse country.
- Each ride lasts approximately 2 hours
- This is an immersive trail experience in authentic Spanish horse country — not ring-based lessons.
Rider Requirements
- Be at least 6 years old
- Be able to ride independently (without a parent walking alongside)
- Feel confident on their own
- Be comfortable following instructor guidance
Why Andalusia?
Andalusia is home to the legendary Andalusian horse — known for elegance, strength, and centuries of cultural significance. The breed has existed since the 1400s, and its characteristics have changed little since then.
Here, your children won’t just ride. They’ll experience authentic Andalusia and horses in their native landscape — white villages, olive trees, beautifully rugged mountains and deep equestrian tradition.
Choosing Lodging for the Retreat
In the booking layout, program fees are selected first. Lodging at the main lodge (where many retreat activities take place, including shared dinners and pool time) can then be added separately under the “Add-Ons” section during checkout.
Guests are also welcome to participate in the retreat while arranging lodging independently, particularly if our limited on-site accommodations are fully booked.
For the most affordable nearby lodging, we recommend Finca La Campana, located about a 10-minute walk (approximately 0.3 miles / 0.5 km) from the main lodge and even closer to the barn and riding area. The route follows a short wooded uphill trail, so tennis shoes or sturdy footwear are recommended for comfort and stability. Accommodations range from private rooms to modest guesthouses and have a relaxed, climber-friendly atmosphere. Guests also have access to the pool and trampoline area at Finca La Campana.

Families seeking more upscale accommodations will also find a variety of higher-end lodging options nearby through Airbnb and Booking.com.
Guests planning to book independent lodging are welcome to reach out before reserving accommodations. We’re happy to recommend nearby options and help families choose lodging close to the main lodge.
Optional Non-Riding Adventures
While riding is the heart of the week, Andalusia offers extraordinary adventure just beyond the barn.
Families are welcome to explore optional activities during their free time, including:
- Hiking the breathtaking El Caminito del Rey (ages 8+)
- Rock climbing in one of Europe’s most beloved climbing regions
- Hiking in the protected natural areas within walking distance to the lodging
- Relaxing poolside or wandering olive groves
This region is a rock climber’s paradise and an outdoor playground. Whether your family prefers adventure or slow afternoons in the sun, there is space for both.
